“The Conjuring” a Frightening Experience for all Thrill Seekers

There is a definite reason everyone is talking about the Conjuring, which came out on DVD October 22nd. This movie’s eerie plot, which is based on a true story, is the kind of story which would make viewers want to sleep with the lights on that night. This movie is great for anyone looking for a good scare.

The Conjuring started off very slowly and predictable, with a family moving into this creepy old house that looks haunted. About twenty minutes into the movie, it started to get interesting when the five kids of the family play hide and seek in their new house and spirits start to show up. The parents ignore the paranormal happenings at first like any scary movie, but then a event happens that is so terrifying the parents are forced to call professional paranormal activity investigators.

This is when this average paranormal movie turns dark. This movie is similar to Paranormal Activity but the scare factor is times ten. The dark spirit sightings don’t just move pots and pans and close doors. These spirits attach themselves to the family with the intent to kill them all.

The most frightening thing about this movie is based off of a real family and a couple of paranormal investigators that help people get rid of evil spirits for a living.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson (who play Ed and Lorraine Warren the paranormal investigators) definitely made the movie. Farmiga’s character is intent on trying to help people with her gift but her husband Ed wants her to take a back seat in the investigating; he is worried about how all of this is effecting her.

Farmiga and Wilson have great onscreen chemistry and play a great paranormal team. The two made me want to know more about the real life paranormal team and the paranormal cases they done.

This movie actually shows the dark spirits that are haunting the house which at times could be scary but at others made for a good laugh.

At a point in the movie one of the daughters got pulled around the room by her hair which honestly I thought was a little hilarious. It just seemed so outrageous and random that it made me laugh. Some parts of the movie would have been better left out of the movie instead of randomly thrown in the middle. It made the intensity of the film go down and the movie would have been more creepy without it.

Besides a few outrageous scenes, the movie overall was a spooky experience. The movie kept me on edge through the end and even involved an exorcism, which was even too eerie to think about.

Overall I would give this movie a three and a half out of five. The movie definitely caught my attention and left me wanting more!
