College Application Causing Stress

Most seniors at Arrowhead are currently in the process of applying to colleges. Stress has been induced due to writing essays, acceptances, letters of recommendations, and filling out applications.

Senior Jake Hess said, “I am very much stressed. I’m applying to nine colleges and five of them require different essays. My deadline, November 1st, is quickly approaching and I’m far behind schedule.”

More often than not, Arrowhead students apply to multiple colleges with different essays, which is adding stress to not only schoolwork, but home life as well.

Senior, Jake Weber said, “My parents are hounding me about finishing my applications and essays. I feel like applications are now coming before school, friends, and family.”

Even students that are applying to colleges without essays still feel pressure and stress.

Senior Jess Schlise said, “Although I’m only applying to one school without an essay I still feel really stressed. I need to get my transcripts in, letters of recommendation, and obviously my application, it’s all very hectic.”

Students that are in Advanced Composition wrote a college essay as an assignment. When students got their essays back, some were overwhelmed with the negative feedback that was on their paper.

Anonymous senior said, “I worked so hard on my college essay trying to tell my story, and when I got it back I felt like my teacher was just ripping on me.”

Some seniors still have much to do and little time to do it.  Hess said, “All my plans for next weeks long weekend are shot. I’ll be writing my five essays and filling out applications. I can’t wait for this whole process to be over!”
