County Road K Effects On Drivers

At Arrowhead the students are driving on County Road K for their daily commute, not to mention the adults going to work. Driving on K has become worse over the years when it comes to deep cracks or even deep pot holes.

Winter is coming and with County K having uneven ground, cracks, and pot holes everywhere can cause the plows to catch the cracks and ruin their equipment. This can make it unsafe for the daily drivers also.

Department of Transportation director says, “The plow can usually take a beating, due to the rubber padding on the bottom of the plows themselves, however, with larger bumps and cracks the edge can get caught and cause damage.”

County Road K has been growing steadily worse over the previous years, with the last road work done in 2007. With over 5 years of wear and tear on the road, it would be expected to see repavement in the near future.

However, Jim at the DOT says, “We plan our books out about 3 years ahead of time, and currently there are no plans for reworking County Road K.”

With all of these problems it just might be time for K to be redone just like MD was just done right around when school was started.

Senior Jack Dambeck says, “I drive on K every morning and the road is causing a lot of extra wear and tear on my car.”

Senior John Widish says, “I have driven on K on my way to school every morning since I was a freshman. It has grown worse each year, with a new pot hole or large crack.”
