Cold Water Challenge Popular at Arrowhead

The Cold Water Challenge is a social media craze in which people challenge their friends to jump into cold water in 24 hours or less.  Once the friend records them jumping into a local lake. They then nominate a few more of their friends to do the challenge.  The trend started on Facebook  and has quickly become popular among high school students.

Senior Samantha Peterson has been nominated by one of her friends to do the Cold Water Challenge.  “I’ve been nominated to do the Cold Water Challenge and I have to do it within the next 24 hours.   I don’t want to because I’m tired,” says Peterson.

Senior Renee Fisher has also participated in the cold water challenge.  “I think the cold water challenge is a fun idea and also fun to do.  It’s great to see how popular it is at Arrowhead,” says Fisher.

The original intention of the Cold Water Challenge was to raise money for charity, but most people are just doing it for fun.  Originally, to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, nominees would give ten dollars to the organization then jump in a lake.   Despite the widespread participation, some students however have been critical of the Cold Water Challenge.

Senior Jack Bralick says he doesn’t want to participate in the Cold Water Challenge despite being nominated by a friend.  “I refuse to do the Cold Water Challenge.  It is a dying trend and I am tired of seeing it on social media.  I refuse to be a part of it, says Bralick.”
