The 1975 is an English, alternative/indie rock band from Manchester, England. On May 3rd, 2014, The 1975 took their tour to Madison, Wisconsin, and performed at the Orpheum Theater. The opening bands started at 7:00 p.m.. Then The 1975 came on stage at 9:00 pm. Their opening bands were Sir Sly and Bad Suns. Sir Sly is an American indie-pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California. Bad Suns is a southern California rock band that was formed in 2012.

The 1975 is a band of four young boys, all from England: Matty Healy, the lead singer and guitarist; Adam Hann, the lead guitarist; Ross MacDonald, bass guitarist; and George Daniel, on the drums.

Rachel Goodwill, a sophomore at AHS, says, “Matty was extremely caring towards the fans. He would look you in the eye and sing to you. It almost made me feel like I was the only person in the room. It was mesmerizing to me.”

Ashley Dorau, a sophomore at AHS, says, “My friend and I got to Madison around 11 in the morning that Saturday and the show was at 9pm that night. We spent the day going out to lunch and touristy places in the city and around 4pm, we went to get in line for seating. We were fifth row! It was incredible and definitely worth the wait.”

Goodwill, said, “The 1975 concert was overall amazing. Getting there super early and waiting in line for the doors to open really got my friend and I pumped. We also got to meet a lot of really cool people who knew a lot more about the band than I did so it was cool to learn more about their background. A bond over music is one of the best bonds out there.”

The 1975’s biggest single of 2013 was “Chocolate.” The song was released in February of 2013, in the U.S. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate_(The_1975_song) “Chocolate” made it on to the top 25 of the “US Mainstream Top 40 Billboard” and iIn the UK it was ranked as number two and held that position for three weeks.

Dorau, says, “Chocolate is my favorite song by them. I also like ‘The City,’ ‘Girls,’ and ‘Settle Down.’ There is also an acoustic version of ‘Chocolate’ and it’s really good.”

During the concert, The 1975, played all of their songs from their newest album, “The 1975.”

Goodwill says, “So Far (It’s Alright)”  was my favorite song that they played because it is upbeat and fun. Listening to it live, made the song far more fun than it would ever be listening to it on the radio. It is also very unlike the rest of their music and it makes it more special to listen to when shuffling the album. This concert really made me realize how amazing it would be to be an artist and play to a crowd that was there for you. The entire show, Matty, the lead singer, would just pause and look out into the audience and smile. I can’t imagine how good it must have felt to know that people love your music enough to come see you play live.”
