A Blast of Cold; What Comes Next?

Two days of coldness came through Wisconsin on January 6th and 7th, which gave Arrowhead High School students two more days off after their winter break which started in December 21 and went through January 1st.

After such cold weather we managed to jump above freezing and get up to what some people might call “shorts weather” with highs around 43 degrees. Wisconsin’s weather channel Fox News said, “…what it feels like outside when high winds are factored into the temperature — could drop into the minus 50s and 60s. Northeastern Montana was warned of wind chills up to 59 below zero.”

Senior Jack Dambeck says, “After such a long break of coldness, we at least had warm weather to come back to instead two bad things.”

January 6th into January 7th, the, Wisconsin’s cold came back. That might be good for the ice fishermen, but for the students waiting for the bus in the morning it could mean life or death.

Senior Jake Fronk says, “This year, I have noticed that there has been less accidents on the way to school. I believe that’s because of people taking it slow and not being reckless drivers.”

The coldness has been none stop through the month of January. This requires many safety concerns for people with broken down cars, recreational activities, and even jobs. The best thing to do in these situations is just to stay inside if you can. We can all benefit from the cold because it keeps the snow on the ground and lets everyone enjoy the white snow before spring comes.

Snow fall is an important part of Wisconsin’s culture and it brings all sorts of great things. It gives most people a chance to ride their snowmobiles and even go sledding.

It’s important to enjoy winter while it’s here and look at all the new possibilities that awaits during winter break and maybe even chances for snow days. Once spring comes the warmth will be that much better.

Arrowhead High Schools Administrative Secretary Tracy MacDonald says, “Right now the superintendent will have to make the decision when it actually happens, but most likely we will have to add time onto exams and maybe come to school an extra day.”
