Students Make Valentine’s Day Plans

Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, and students are making plans with their loved ones.

Some students are planning on spending the day with their significant others.

Junior Aubrey Medina says, “I am celebrating with my boyfriend Brendan. We are having a date night that consists of him surprising me.”

Other students are planning on celebrating the day with their friends and families.

Many local restaurants are having specials. For example at Lupi & Iris, located at 777 N. VAN BUREN ST, there will be a three-course pre-fixed menu from February 10 to 14. They also place fresh flowers and chocolates on the table when people arrive for an extra charge.

Sophomore Olivia Rydzik says, “My friends and I are all meeting up at someone’s house, making dinner, decorating and hanging out. We call it Galentine’s Day.”

Galentine’s Day is something teenage girls do. It is celebrating Valentine’s Day with friends. The TV show “Parks and Recreation’s” main character, Leslie Knope, came up with the idea of Galentine’s Day as a way to honor her closest friends.

If students are not looking to spend a lot of money on gifts there are always some cheap gift ideas.

Emma Nettisheim says, “I think there are a lot of ways to show love to people without spending a lot. I am planning on surprising my best friends with flowers and delivering them to their houses. But I think another easy and fun way to show love is making homemade chocolate covered strawberries.”

Flowers can be purchased at almost every local grocery store such as Sendiks and Albrechts. There are also many flower shops around Hartland like The Flower Garden, and Wild Petals Floral.

Along with almost every holiday comes traditions.

“When I think of Valentine’s Day, I think about how when we were younger we would buy little Valentine’s Day cards for our whole class and pass them out,” says sophomore Macie Bularz.

Other Valentine’s Day activities include listening to love songs, watching romantic or romantic comedy movies, doing arts and crafts, and more.
