With the holidays coming up fast, many people are in the giving mood and a lot of organizations are ramping up their efforts to get people to help out. This means there are a lot of free and accessible volunteer opportunities for people wanting to give back to their community. Many places welcome people of all ages and skill levels to help out. Here is a list of some around the Hartland area.
- The Oconomowoc Food Pantry: donations are taken Monday through Wednesday and on Fridays from 9-11 Am. Donations can be made through PayPal or call their number (262) 567-7054
- The Salvation Army in Waukesha: this organization has a community meal volunteer opportunity on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 4-6 and a food pantry on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-4 & Friday from 9-12. Please remember all volunteers must complete an application before volunteering and create or log in to an account to sign up or see upcoming events and opportunities.
- The Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County: this organization has a 2025 toy shop volunteer that individuals can sign up for on their website.
- Shorehaven Living center: they are a retirement/assisted living facility near Oconomowoc. They have a volunteer “service league” that helps with holiday events and resident support. Check out their website for more information.
Remember, volunteering is not just about donating time, it is about meeting new people and making a difference in the community. Whether you help out at a food pantry, go Christmas caroling or donate money, everything helps and anyone can do it.
