The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games have come to a close. Team USA had a successful time in Italy.
Overall, the team won 33 medals. Nine medals were bronze in Freestyle Skiing, Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing, Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Luge and Short Track. 12 silver medals were awarded in Freestyle Skiing, Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowboarding and Curling. Finally, Team USA won 12 gold medals in Freestyle Skiing, Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey and Bobsleigh.
In Figure Skating, the most viewed Olympic sport this season, Alysa Liu won gold in both the Women’s Singles and Team Event. She has become an inspiration to aspiring figure skaters. “I love choreography and music, and I do it on my own terms. No one tells me what to do,” Alysa Liu said in an NBC interview.
West Bend native Jordan Stolz won the 500-meter race in Speed Skating, becoming the youngest single-distance world champion. He also won a gold medal in the Men’s 1000 meter and a silver in the Men’s 1500 meter. Stolz trains at the Petit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, WI.
Love was in the air this Olympics! Breezy Johnson, the gold medal winner in the Women’s Alpine Skiing for the Downhill, was proposed to by her boyfriend, Conner Watkins.
As the Milano Cortina Olympics come to a close, the Milano Cortina Paralympics start being set up. On Friday, March 6, the Winter Paralympic Games will begin.
