On February 15 and 16, the Arrowhead Ski Team had the honor to participate in the Wisconsin State tournament in LaCrosse.
The girls had a huge success finishing 7th in Slalom, 9th in the Giant Slalom and 7th in the super G. This combined led to a finish of 8th overall in the state.
“State this year was extra challenging for the girls because of newly added competitive co-op teams and the loss of 5 seniors last year. However, we had lots of individual success and it was a great experience for many of the new racers”, Anna Shotola, junior, said.
The girls did not only have their team successes, but also huge individual accomplishments. In the top 50 finishes out of 242 competitors, Anna Shotola got 20th in Slalom, 37th in Giant Slalom and 26th in the Super G. Maddy Nelson finished with a 41st in Slalom and 49th in Giant slalom, Emme Koper with a 44th in Slalom and 47th in the Super G and finally Kaitlyn Slalom with 11th place in the Giant Slalom and 5th in the Super G.
The boys team took home 2nd place overall in the team competition by being 5th in the Slalom, 1st in the Giant Slalom and 2nd in the Super G.
The top 50 finishes in a field of 142 included freshman Mason Katzfuss with a 32nd in Slalom, a 20th in Giant Slalom and a 37th in the Super G. Freshman Owen Black also had a 38th in the Super G. Jack Horn placed 30th in Slalom. Madoc Ferguson was 3rd in Giant Slalom and 10th in the Super G. Finally, Grayson Bruss was 3rd in the Slalom, 13th in the Giant Slalom and 6th in the Super G for a combined 5th place overall individual finish.
“This was a perfect way to end the season, the team did great”, Grayson Bruss, senior, said.
Even though state was extra challenging for the girls and the boys because of newly added competitive co-op teams and the loss of seniors last year, they fought for lots of individual success and it was a great experience for many of the new racers. All together they ended the season in a way they should be proud of.
