As the school year winds down and graduation gets closer. A phenomenon has taken hold of the senior class: Senioritis. While senioritis is not a medically recognized condition, its symptoms are well known among seniors, and it’s often joked about by students and staff.
Senioritis is the decline in motivation; it’s the lack of effort; it’s the laziness that a senior gets as they get close to graduation. For many students, the thought of summer and college makes it hard to stay focused in the classroom.
“I’m already committed [to my university], and the grades don’t affect my future,” Klein Jacobsen, senior, said.
Teachers have noticed the change as well.
“I would say that there are definitely a few people who are experiencing it and a few have had it since September,” Mr. Reichle, Arrowhead teacher, said. “I think they just have to suck it up for a couple more weeks.”
Although joked about, Senioritis can have real consequences. Final grades still matter, especially for college admissions and scholarships. Many schools require certain academic standings during senior year in order to attend.
As graduation approaches, senioritis will only get worse, but with a little effort from Arrowhead seniors, they can finish strong and make the most out of their final days at the school.
