Final exams are approaching, projects are being turned in and the weather is warming up. For me, a junior, these signs set up my final summer before senior year. While I am nervous about applying for colleges, getting letters of recommendation and making sure I am ready for a big year, Arrowhead’s Journalism Class’s four seniors are taking a huge step forward and finally leaving high school behind. They have made Journalism an amazing experience with each of their unique personalities providing an enjoyable and productive atmosphere.
Eli Arnold has no shortage of energy. He always came into class with a smile on his face and random lore to drop. Whether he was strumming the guitar or cartwheeling, Eli kept the room entertained. His performance as Maui in his eighth-grade musical paved the way for his continuous creativity through photography and music, such as a glorious rap he made in Music Production. Thank you, Eli, for bringing the whimsy.
Ava Eigner is a natural leader. She made sure everyone formatted their articles correctly, included quality content and set clear expectations as one of the class editors. Although she was professional, Ava never missed an opportunity to engage the class in a game of Imposter or a fun TikTok. Her focused mindset, combined with her welcoming spirit, is no less than admirable. Thank you, Ava, for keeping the class on track and moving.
Kathryn McKenna is everyone’s friend. No one could ever be mad at Kathryn because even when she gets feisty, she follows it with a contagious laugh. She is an active listener to many of the absurd stories that are shared in the class and was a great person to talk to. Kathryn and I went on the JSA Washington, D.C. trip together this year and when we were experiencing travel troubles, Kathryn was ready to jump into action on the Metro and film a short report. Thank you, Kathryn, for being up for anything.
Piper Moede stood on business. As Journalism’s other editor alongside Ava, these two made a great team. Ava set the expectations and Piper ensured the class followed through. If an article was not in on time, Piper would not rest until that publish button was pushed. Not only did she bring the gavel down, she also brought the fits. Each class, Piper would come in with another stylish outfit that highlighted her upbeat personality. Her knowledge of journalism and pop culture never let the conversation dull. Thank you, Piper, for modeling ambition.
These four are going to contribute so many good things to this world during the next chapter of their lives. Once again, thank you, Eli, Ava, Kathryn and Piper for making Journalism the most memorable class of this year!
