For the past two years, I have been a part of our school’s journalism program as a photographer and reporter. Looking back, it has been one of the best experiences of my high school career.
As a photographer, I went to a lot of school events like sports games. While being a photographer I learned how to tell stories through pictures, I learned how to finish work under pressure especially during the fast paced football games where my timing could make or break a photo. Seeing my photos published in the newspaper was always so rewarding. Easily the best part of the class.
As a reporter, I interviewed students, teachers and staff members all around campus about topics that mattered to our school. This helped my communication and writing skills and I’m so glad I can go into the next chapter of my life with them.
One of the best parts of being in journalism was not only seeing my work get published, but it was working with a team. Having a community in the classroom is so special, it makes me excited to come to class and work on articles. Some of the best moments in that class were when we weren’t doing anything but having fun.
After two years in the class, I can say that journalism has helped me grow both personally and professionally. The experiences I had as a school photographer and reporter have given my skills that I will continue to use in the future. I am so grateful for the opportunities, memories and friendships that came from the journalism program, and I will always look back on it with so much appreciation.
Thank you,
Eli Arnold.
