Who’s going to the Smite World Championship?

The+Oceania+Championship+of+this+year.

The Oceania Championship of this year.

In the weeks leading up to the Smite World Championship (SWC or Worlds), there’s been very little change in the Metagame to allow for an extremely competitive environment. And to elevate hype even further, Coca-Cola is sponsoring Hi-Rez to get the Smite World Championship playing in theaters. So I think to help people understand the circumstances, that it would be helpful to talk about each team from NA to know who’s representing us.

The first team that’s going to the SWC is Team Eager from North America. Eager has been a force to be reckoned with ever since LANs of this year where they finished with the most points by a landslide. Eager has been a very consistently unpredictable team, using the newest god Camazotz (in the solo lane no less) as soon as he was allowed to be played competitively. A testament to Eager’s skill is that they’re a major deciding factor in the direction that the metagame goes. For instance, when they started prioritizing Sylvanus and Ra, many other teams followed suit. Despite all this though, this is actually the first time that Eager goes to the SWC, with only Divios having played at this level January of this year.

The second team from North America is Soar Gaming. Despite being the number two seed in NA Soar is a team of all stars. Three of their current members have been to the world stage previously on with Andister and Baskin having appeared with Cloud 9

and Snoopy having been on COG RED. They were outshined this year by Eager, but they’ve got a shot at redemption.

The next team going to Worlds is from NA but they’re classified as a Wildcard team. This team is Team Allegiance. People remember Allegiance for their mid season roster overhaul. In less than a week, they replaced three of their members including their team captain. They have gone undefeated since, and have become a serious contender to be champions In regards to experience each player has in Worlds, MLCst3alth has been to Worlds every time (having gone with Cloud 9 before the previous two years), making this his third consecutive appearance. The others haven’t been to Worlds until now, but these players are all veterans of the competitive scene, so they won’t be pushovers.

The second wildcard team is also from North America meaning that four out of the ten teams in Worlds are American. Luminosity had a strong start in the online phase of the SPL only losing two games while winning 14. Though their results have dwindled some, they still had a good enough performance in super regionals to land them in Worlds.

Another thing people are talking about is the all star games that are going down. In it the old Cloud 9 roster (BaRRaCCuDDa, JeffHindla, MLCst3alth, Andister and Baskin) will be facing off against the old COG RED roster to find which roster is truly the best, to the delight of fans of the SPL.

The only thing that’s certain in this year’s SWC is that all bets are off. Despite how impressive the NA teams seem, the two European teams have equally impressive results. And with the Chinese and Oceanic teams thrown in the mix, it’s nearly impossible to tell who the victor will be.
