The 2015-16 NFL season is nearing an end, as week 14 comes to a close. With playoff berths at stake, Weeks 15, 16, and 17 will be crucial for team’s chances to claim a spot in the playoffs and for a chance to make it to the great Super Bowl 50.

So far, three teams have clinched their division title and a spot in the playoffs, leaving a whole disarray of teams with chances to get in as well. The three teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs include one team from the AFC, the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots (11-2), and two teams from the NFC: the Arizona Cardinals (11-2) and the undefeated Carolina Panthers (13-0).

In addition to clinching a playoff berth, the Carolina Panthers have also clinched a first round bye to advance their chances to Santa Clara, as Super Bowl 50 will be held in Levi’s Stadium.

The other teams leaning toward their division titles are the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, and Indianapolis Colts out of the AFC and the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins out of the NFC.

Many teams have yet to officially claim spots in the playoffs, while some teams have been eliminated completely. From the AFC, four teams have lost their playoff chances. These teams are the Baltimore Ravens (4-9), San Diego Chargers (3-10), Cleveland Browns (3-10), and Tennessee Titans (3-10). As for the NFC, two teams have been eliminated, which include, the Detroit Lions (4-9) and the San Francisco 49ers (4-9).

Many teams are nearing elimination, but still in the hunt for the playoffs. AFC teams still alive for the playoffs include the Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5), Oakland Raiders (6-7), Buffalo Bills (6-7), Houston Texans (6-7), Miami Dolphins (5-8), and Jacksonville Jaguars (5-8). In the NFC, teams still alive are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7), Atlanta Falcons (6-7), Philadelphia Eagles (6-7), New York Giants (6-7), St. Louis Rams (5-8), New Orleans Saints (5-8), Chicago Bears (5-8), and Dallas Cowboys (4-9).

Currently in wild-card picture, two teams from each conference all have records of eight wins and five losses. These teams include the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, from the AFC, and the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings, from the NFC. These spots fluctuate the most and may turn out differently after Week 17.

Arrowhead junior and NFL fan, Chris Marmes says he is eager to see what outcome will take place for the 2015-16 wild-card spots.

“The next couple weeks are going to be tough and many teams I know of right now all have around the same record,” Marmes said. “I’m pretty sure they’ll be a big upset at some point that will throw off the wild card picture.”

There has also been thought in which matchups will be the most important as shown by bleacherreport analyst Ryan McCrystal.

“The most fascinating division battle in the conference is in the dreadful AFC South,” says McCrystal on bleacherreport.com. “Despite two consecutive blowout losses, the Indianapolis Colts remain the favorite in the division due to the fact that they host the Houston Texans in Week 15. With a victory, the Colts will hold a one-game lead in the division, and own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Texans.

“The NFC East remains the most fascinating race in the conference for all the wrong reasons, of course. Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins victories in Week 14, a 10-loss division winner is no longer a possibility. But it remains likely the division will send a 7-9 team to the playoffs. The most important game in that division could end up being a Week 16 battle between the Redskins and Eagles in Philadelphia.”

As for all those Packers fans out there, the Green Bay Packers are currently situated in a third seed in the NFC playoff picture and will be facing the Minnesota Vikings in the final week of the season. They also might have a crucial matchup with them in the playoffs as well.

After week 17, the playoffs will begin and the road to Super Bowl 50 will be put into full gear. Now it comes down to which team wants it more.
