Arrowhead Boys Basketball Celebrates Senior Night

On Tuesday, February 20th, Arrowhead High School hosted the Varsity Boys Basketball Senior Night game against the Milwaukee Academy of Science. The Warhawks won by a score of 82-66.

This year, the team boasts six seniors: Jay Haase, Jace Gilbert, Sam Leoni, Bennett Basich, Andy Cochrane, and manager Nathan Saloga.

Each senior got flowers, an announcement over the PA system, and a personalized highlight video from this season’s games.

Haase says, “Being a part of the program since I was a little kid made senior night so special for me and having my parents with me especially my dad whose always been my coach made it special too.”

According to WiSports, Basich and Gilbert led scoring for the Warhawks with 22 points and 18 points per game, respectively.

Basich says, “Having good teammates around me helped lead to my big game and my teammates trusting me and passing to me.”

As for rebounds, Gilbert and Junior AJ Ohrmundt contributed the most defensively, getting the ball back for the Warhawks a combined 23 times.

With the victory against Milwaukee Academy of Science, the Warhawks improve to a record of 21-2 overall and lead the Classic 8 Conference 14-1.

Cochrane says, “I’m feeling pretty confident with our current position and how we are playing together as a team.”

Sam Leoni helped his teammates score, leading Arrowhead with eight assists.

Basich says, “I’m feeling good going into playoffs. We have a tough sectional but we have to play these teams inevitably so I’d rather play them earlier than later.”

On Sunday, February 18th at 11 a.m., the WIAA released the 2024 Boys Basketball Playoff Brackets.  In Division 1, there are four sectionals and 68 teams total. Each sectional bracket holds 17 teams. Arrowhead is ranked #2 in Sectional 2.

Haase says, “For our senior group the preparation really started for us way back last spring, we’ve had so many open gym session and skill sessions in the spring and summer…overall I think we’re really prepared and in a good spot to make a deep run again.”

Arrowhead will begin their playoffs on Friday, March 1st at 7 p.m at home, against #15 Oshkosh West.
