Arrowhead gymnastics coach Bob Pulkowski congratulates his team after an outstanding performance at the five-team Classic 8/Southeast Conference meet hosted by Arrowhead on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015. Arrowhead senior Jorin Fredman won the all-around championship helping Arrowhead win the conference championship in the process.

Arrowhead gymnastics won state last year, and the teammates say that is same goal for the upcoming year.

This year, they are preparing for gymnastics a month before the season starts and for ten of the girls, this is their final season.

Arrowhead gymnastics officially starts Monday, November 9th.

Senior Marissa Kildow said, “We are preparing a lot for this season. For most of us, it’s our last season so we’re really going to give it our all. We practice for three hours after school at either Midwest Twisters or Salto Dance Studio. We put a lot of hard work into practices and we’re also trying to make this season the best yet.”

The seniors of this AHS gymnastics team consist of Taryn Sherman, Bryn Bierman, Marissa Kildow, Tiana Rohe, Taylor Radke, Emily Graff, Sam Borgerding, Rachel Lewis, and Brittany Hahn.

“This year, we definitely lost a lot of our top competitors including Jorin Fredman, Bailey Shamien, and Haley Dunn. We definitely, though, won’t let that loss of girls keep us from working hard and aiming for state,” says Lewis.

The team had two wins at state in the last ten years, and Sherman broke a Wisconsin bar record with a 9.81 score in 2015.

“This year is mine and a lot of the other girls last year with Arrowhead gymnastics and it’s really hard to end this incredible sports, but we are going to show our pride and represent Arrowhead and our team immensely throughout the season. We are also going to work our hardest to obtain another state title, and finish strong,” says Bierman.

“Our girls have so much drive and we put in a lot of time and effort to do well. Yes, it’s a lot of the girls’ last year, but I think we were good role models to our younger teammates on the team and I know they are going to do great after this season ends without us. But either way, it’s our last year so we are going to start and end the season strong. That’s our main goal,” says Borgerding.
