Since 2009, every first Friday in March has become National Unplugging Day. Global Day of Unplugging (GDU) has continuously hosted the Annual GDU, which is a worldwide event where people and communities power down their digital devices and connect without their screens in the way. This occasion allows people to join real human connections. An individual can choose to unplug their devices for an hour, or the whole day, by themselves or with a group; they can step into a world of bonding and companionship.
Many benefits can arise from putting down digital devices; even one day of setting aside electronics can be beneficial to a person’s health. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media, an individual can find more time to devote their focus to more creative activities or exercise. Fun activities can consist of painting, scrapbooking, reading, puzzles, or spending more time with family and friends. As for exercise, less downtime on a phone or computer opens up a slot to go to the gym, or search up an exercise video at home and try it out.
Global Day of Unplugging provides more information about their goals and how to get involved with the awareness campaign on their website. March 6th, 2026, marks National Unplugging Day. Get ready to put down devices and embrace the outside world.
