Volleyball Boys Are Amped Up For The Season

School’s up and running again and everyone knows what that means, so are fall sports. Along with all other sports, Arrowhead Volleyball boys say that they are stoked to see where this season leads them.

With a new season comes new expectations. Luke Pitzo, a senior, is a defensive specialist and is working with his team towards winning sectionals and also moving on to State on November 14th and 15th.

Michael Pepitone, a senior, plays outside hitter for the Warhawks and has been playing for all four years. Pepitone has high hopes for this season, and he wants to see his team exceed their expectations from their last season.

Along with winning sectionals the team also wants to beat their rivals, Germantown, who they lost to last year in sectionals according to Pitzo.

Pepitone thinks that the teams’ strengths is their hitting, as it has been in years past as well.

“Our service line has never been better than it is this year,” said Peptione.

Pitzo says that the team this year is going to exceed expectations.

“We have really good chemistry this year, even though it’s still in the works, I think it’s already better than last years,” said Pitzo.

Pitzo has been playing for the Warhawks for four years and is also team captain along with Joey Dittman.

Last year the Warhawks went 6-1 in conference play and took 2nd in sectionals. Although Pepitone says that their two best hitters graduated last year, they still have a strong chance of doing well again this year.

Even though they lost two great hitters, Pitzo acknowledges the other strengths on their team such as the amount of depth they have on the team and the athleticism the whole team has.

Peptione also agrees with Pitzo, saying, “Our hitting is very strong this year.”

Even with all their strengths, both Peptione and Pitzo agree there is always room for improvement. Peptione says the team could be improve on running their midde more often and by working on their defense.

“Really we have a good team, but if we improve our middle’s hitting we could be even better,” says Pitzo.

As the boys are looking towards their future about what they want to accomplish this season, both Pitzo and Peptione are savoring every moment they can, as this is there last year playing volleyball for Arrowhead.

Peptione explained the feeling as initially sad knowing that it’s his last year but at the same time he’s feeling excitement because he’s a starter and helps lead the underclassmen to success in the future.

As Pitzo puts it, “There’s been twinges of despair, but seeing our potential and the places we, as seniors, could lead our team to, energizes the whole team with motivation and a drive for victory.”
