Arrowhead Varsity Baseball Team Picks Up First Win in last five games.

The Arrowhead Varsity Baseball team won their first game since Monday, April 22nd, of 2019. After losing their last five games, the Warhawks defeated the visiting Mukwonago Indians 11-1. The game was played at O’Driscoll Field on the campus of Arrowhead High School on Thursday, May 9th.

The Warhawks held an event after the game for the players for both senior and parent night. The event honored not only the seniors but all of the players and parents who have dedicated time and effort into the season.

“I would say it’s a pleasant feeling getting that win. We as a team were getting beginning to get a little down on ourselves and a little worried about the prospects of the season, but after last night, we learned that we still have what it takes to play well. We are going to try and keep it going from now on and string a couple wins together and make a run at the state title,” says senior Luke Schaufnagel about the win.

“I feel that I have had my ups and downs but overall I’m doing what I can to help the team and I’m just trying to help us get those wins. Hitting-wise I just have to put the bat on the ball, get it in play and maybe even hit a couple more bombs. I hope to pitch some solid innings, play great defense at shortstop and even steal some more bases to get into scoring position,” says Schaufnagel on his individual play.

Starting on the mound for the Arrowhead Warhawks was senior ace, Davis Zeutzius. Zeutzius threw the complete five-inning game. Zeutzius gave up one earned run that came in the top of the second inning. He threw a total of 74 pitches on the night, 68% of them strikes. Zeutzius also had a season-high eight strikeouts. Zeutzius let the Indians have one hit.

“It was a pretty good outing. I’m pretty proud of myself. You know, we finally came out with a win for the first time in a while. It was probably my first day with no walks and I thought I could just throw wherever I wanted to. Mukwonago wasn’t that good at hitting, but I mean I was hitting my spots,” says Zeutzius.

The Warhawk’s dominance came in the bottom of the second inning when they posted ten runs. Senior catcher Joey Huckstep led the team with two runs batted in. Seniors Joey Bartalone, Nic Wohlfiel, and Tyler Lamack each added one RBI to the team. Following that, juniors Jacob Cienilli, Adam Polczynski, Caleb Lorbecki, and Tyler Loebel all contributed a run to the team.

The Warhawks will be playing Oconomowoc, Friday, May 10th at O’Driscoll Field as a makeup (the originally scheduled game was rained out on Thursday, May 2nd).

The Warhawks then will face the visiting Wilmont for a Saturday, May 11th morning game.
