What Some Students Call the Highlight Of Their Summer: Summerfest

According to the official Summerfest website, Summerfest is recognized as “The World’s Largest Music Festival.” Presented by American Family Insurance in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Summerfest hosts over 800 bands and 90,0000 fans over 11 days on 11 stages. It starts the last Wednesday of June and goes for the next 11 days. It is open from 10am-12:00am. It costs $20 to get in.

AHS senior, Tessa DeQuardo said, “Summerfest is what I look forward to the most every summer. It is a good time to see all my friends, hangout, and listen to some of my favorite artists.”

DeQuardo said that her favorite part of Summerfest is the bus ride. The bus that she takes leaves from the Nagawicka Park and Ride on WI-83. It is $10 and it comes about every 15 minutes.

“My favorite part of fest is the bus ride down. People are always singing and dancing, and it gets me really hyped up for the concerts that I am going to see that night,” DeQuardo said.

DeQuardo said she enjoys the Summerfest lineup for the main stage, also known as the American Family Insurance Amphitheater.

She said, “I think so far the lineup far is decent. I am really sad that Zac Brown Band is not coming back. I saw them last year and it was one of the best concerts that I have been to in a while. I am really happy that G-Eazy and Halsey are coming because I love some of their songs. Florida-Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, and Shawn Mendes are coming which those are all pretty popular bands so it should be fun.”

DeQuardo says she has seen quite a few band in the past.

Dequardo said, “I paid last year to see the Zac Brown Band, but the free bands that I saw were like Flume, Steve Aoki, T-Pain, Kyle, and Felly. I was pretty happy with the side stage lineup last year because those bands were very popular.”

Even though the side stages have not been released yet, there were a few bands that Dequardo hopes make the lineup.

DeQuado said, “I hope Jon Bellion [and] Drake come because all his music is super popular and I love it.”

AHS senior Julia Wesley also said she likes to attend Summerfest. “My favorite part of Summerfest is talking to people. I like socializing with all my friends. I also like how there are so many free concerts that you can choose from.”

Wesley said she is impressed so far with the main stage lineup this year.

“I love Logic, Florida-Georgia Line, Shawn Mendes. Florida-Georgia Line is my favorite because I love country music and it gives me good vibes. The tickets and prices can be found online on the official Summerfest page.”

Wesley says she has also seen many concerts at summerfest. “So far I have seen T-Pain, Kyle, Flume, Steve Aoki, Imagine Dragons. Those were all just last year.”

Wesley hopes that some of her favorite bands will show up on the side stage lineup.

“If I could have one band come that would be a side stage I would choose Post Malone. He is my all time favorite singer and I am in love with his music. He is becoming more and more popular throughout the years,” said Wesley.

“I am more than excited for Summerfest of 2018,” she said.
