Twitch chat during Allegiance’s first game against Enemy.

Most Wanted is a team that came from the North American Challenger Cup (CC), and having won that they’ve earned their place in the Gauntlet. This means that they had a chance to be formally accepted into the SPL. The teams that they played in the Gauntlet were the teams that lost in the Group Stage, so Most Wanted had to play Noble eSports then the winner of that game played Team EnVyUs, then Team Enemy then Team Allegiance. The winner of the last game would go to the Smite World Championship.

Noble eSports was Most Wanted first opponents. Most wanted ended up winning two out of three games. Many attribute this to the last minute roster change MW made; they exchanged their mid from Wolp to well known ranked player ManRay. ManRay absolutely dominated in the first game as Ra keeping Noble’s jungler, Mirage, from getting to late game form as Ao Kuang. Game two Noble got Ra instead, and won team fights hard enough to offset the advantage that a split pushing Bastet gave MW. But Noble’s major weakness, teamfights, lost them the last game of the set.

For set two of the it was EnVyUs versus Most Wanted, with Most Wanted actually being favored to win. This is mostly due to the fact that three players left EnVyUS for team Allegiance just before the Gauntlet started, but the new players proved themselves. The first game they lost to Most Wanted due to their weak objective control and a late game Jing Wei decimating them. Game two their jungler played Loki and split push to victory. Game three had Envy claim victory through relentless invades of MW’s jungle. So Envy would face Enemy.

Enemy was expected to lose due to their recent poor performances in the Fall Split and in Group D. But in game one, Enemy’s jungler, Shatt3rd focused Envy’s solo laner Kiki (playing Geb) pulling ahead and putting down their best player. Game two was largely the same despite Kiki choosing a safer pick (Guan Yu). The second game was only 24 minutes long.

Allegiance dominated their set, and showed why they were the number one seed in the Gauntlet. Back when Weak3n and CycloneSpin were on Envy, they had really great synergy, and from the looks of things they still do. The two scored early kills on Marauder (Enemy’s solo laner) giving Cyclone an early lead and buying time for Oceans (ALG’s ADC) playing Rama to get to late game. Game two was even until ALG began focusing the veterans on Enemy, and finished with a dominating 2-0 victory for the set. So Team Allegiance will be appearing in Super Regionals and have a shot at making it to Worlds. For MLCst3alth this is the third consecutive time he’s made it to super regionals.

Oceans was named the MVP of the Gauntlet with a 12.5 overall K/D/A. He says this about their performance. “Going into the Gauntlet we felt really confident; not only because we were top seed, but also how well the team managed to mesh in such a short period of time.” “Because we’re quite a new roster, going into Super Regionals we have about a week to prepare. Having this little time to prepare for such a huge LAN is tough, but with enough hard work we feel confident in our chances, and shouldn’t be counted out.

Now that the Gauntlet is over, Allegiance and Dignitas are moving on to Super Regionals to compete with the other eight teams. Super Regionals start Wednesday November 16th.
