According to chictopia.com, bralettes have grown in popularity as bloggers from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto discovered them. Bralettes are generally seen in chic, trendy, and casual styles, and they are meant to be shown off. For example, having the halter bralette straps peeking through a sweater is a great way to wear them.

According to barenecessities.com, a bralette is a wire-free, stretch lace bra. It can be with or without padding, and comes in inclusive sizes. It can also come in more of a shorter, thin style or a longer style that covers half of the stomach.

“I didn’t really know about these until I looked on Pinterest and noticed that a lot of people were wearing them to music festivals and concerts. I loved the look and soon they started popping up all over school,” says senior Cassidy Valade.

Krista Molinaro, a contemporary and luxury buyer at Barenecessities.com, stated in an article called, “Style And Function: The Bralette Fashion Trend,” that, “The trend really came out of the Coachella festival-fashion scene. It’s cool and slightly hippie to let your bralette show. At first, women were wearing them without a top! Now, I’m noticing a lot of lace bandeaus and bralettes right there in the clothing department, not just with the lingerie.”

These bralettes are very popular not only at Arrowhead, but also with celebrities. Celebrities have embraced this style including Shay Mitchell and Nicole Richie. According to styleblazer.com’s article called, “Show Just The Right Amount Of Skin In Your Bralette This Summer,” celebrities are wearing the same bralette in three different ways: paired under a vest, with high-waisted white pants and again in a more casual style with high-waisted denim shorts.

Bralettes can be found in many popular stores, including H&M, American Eagle, Aerie, Forever 21, Free People, and Urban Outfitters. Most of these stylish bralettes sell for $20 to $40 depending on the style and/or brand.

“It’s almost like a comfy stylish sports bra. I wear bralettes all the time with most of all my outfits,” says senior, Tiana Rowe.

There are multiple reasons why bralettes are such great pieces to add to your outfits, barnecessities.com states: 1. They complete your look — whether you’re flashing a band of lace or just a glimpse under a wrap dress, they’re a fresh fashion accessory. 2. They’re comfy — and that’s really the secret to feeling beautiful, is it not? They’re wire-free, and sizing is stress-free (XS to XL, or band size only or cup size only). And lastly, 3. They’re versatile — from work to the weekend, or from street to the office, you could even wear them to bed.

“I have so many bralettes it’s crazy. They come in so many styles and types. You can get ones with lines down the back or a halter type one. They are so cool and awesome and you are really supposed to show them off with outfits,” says junior Mattie Kujowski.

Today, according to chictopia.com, women of all sizes are wearing bralettes with tank tops, dresses, and t-shirts. Bralettes are more comfortable than regular bras with wire and padding and they’re convenient, versatile and fashionable. Some have more of a push up and other types have zero at all. If there’s one thing that can be said to sum up bralettes: they are meant to be shown, unlike other bras that are best hidden under clothing.
