Highway 18 Outdoor Theater

Highway 18 Outdoor Theater

Marcus Hillside and Majestic are the two major theaters that Arrowhead students tend to go when there are new flicks to be seen, but what many students are unaware of is the Highway 18 Outdoor Theater in Jefferson.

Highway 18 theater is Wisconsin’s first digital cinema drive in theater. It has been projecting films since 1982 according to the theatre’s website.

“I had no idea that there was a drive-in. Is it like the one in Grease,” said senior Grant Levite.

The theater is set in a large farm-like field and has about 35-40 speakers that are set on the tops of poles so there is sound on the left and right sides of a car. The movie is projected on a 90-foot

screen that is deadcenter in the field.

The theater is approximately 33 miles away from Arrowhead. It is located at the corner of highway 18 and 89, two miles West of Jefferson.

The weekend of the first, the theater showed Home and Night At the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. The week of the eighth will be Hot Pursuit and American Sniper. The tickets are $9 per person.

“I went there a few times during the summer which was super fun because my dad has a convertible,” said junior Mikayla Giesie.

The concession stand is not only very retro, with its checkerboard floor and jukebox machine, but has many unique items, like the Gutbuster burger, the Deep Fried Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites, and the Mac n Jac Bites for reasonable prices. A Chicken Strip dinner is five dollars and includes four pieces of chicken and french fries.

The theater has their own policies of no alcohol, drugs, outside food or beverages, smoking of any kind (includes E-cigarettes), and no refunds.

The box office opens at seven pm and the show begins at dusk.

This Friday’s weather forecast does not look good for a drive-in movie with the forecast being 81 degrees and thunderstorms, but Saturday looks to be slightly better with partial clouds and a temperature of 70 degrees according to the Weather Channel.

“I had AP exams this week and it felt really good to just go and see the movie and eat pink cotton candy,” said junior Keegan Moore.
