Locker room madness

Locker+room+madness

When it comes to the Basketball locker rooms conceptions. The first one being that Arrowhead the school spent about 660,000 on the boys locker room. This is not the case Arrowhead received about 360,000 from a donor and only 300,000 was provided from the school itself. The total coming up to $660,000. This money was not only used for the renovation of the locker rooms but also went towards two storage rooms, three coach offices, and a conference or media room available to all departments of the school.

Some people believe that the renovations in the locker rooms wasn’t necessary but the locker rooms have caused problems in the past. Originally belonging to the swim team the locker rooms often had sewage backups, the toilets didn’t work, with zero to no ventilation. The school decided that in between two to five years they would have to fix the locker rooms. The area in need of renovation was about 7500 square feet and would have cost between 75 to 100 dollars on average per square feet. If Arrowhead had not taken the donation this renovation would have ended up costing Arrowhead around 562,500 dollars. With the donation Arrowhead only needed to provide about 300,000 dollars for heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing, saving 262,500 dollars.

Others believe Arrowhead went overboard with the decorations. According to Mr. Wieczorek Arrowhead didn’t spend any money on the decor, the donor just made a second donation specifically for the decor in the boys locker room. The locker room currently contains a TV, smart board, white board, wooden personalized lockers etc. The Boys basketball team have not yet been in there for any sort of pre-game meeting.

The girls locker room do have personalized lockers but don’t yet have a tv, smart board or whiteboard. The school has to make sure the functionality of the locker rooms are the same for the boys as well as the girl. As of now the boys have been given an advantage with the technology currently in their locker rooms, but people are raising money to provide the girls with the same technology.

Some students are wondering why the school doesn’t try to improve their clubs and activities equipment.  Mr. Wieczorek says renovations like that can happen if people are willing to donate some for that particular department of the school.
