As summer fades away, September and high school football comes rolling in.  The Arrowhead football team gets a start on their 2014 season with a record of two wins and a close loss so far in the season. This season will wrap up football careers for many on the team experiencing their bittersweet last year on the AHS football field.

Most players began their journey in the fifth grade with the local Lake Country Chiefs team and have evolved into a fourth year player at the high school level.  Some joined later on in the journey such as number ten and wide receiver, Austin Konen.

“I quit in seventh grade and I missed the sport so much.  It’s senior year, so why not?” says Konen.

Peyton Peterson, number 5 and kicker on the team, also joined the team senior year stating he would regret the decision if he chose not to play.

“It’s amazing seeing how much the school supports the team,” says Peterson.

Veterans on the team anticipate their last year with the team with much excitement for what is ahead.

Michael Tanke, an outside linebacker, says, “Our team is extremely selfless and never repeats mistakes that we have made.”

The Arrowhead Warhawks are two-time defending state champions and believe they have been taught a lot from alumni from graduating classes.

“The past seniors taught me to not let any moment pass and I definitely will not my last year here,” says Andy Hessler, linebacker on the team.

As the Warhawks prepare for a game against rival Catholic Memorial at Carroll College on the 12th, the boys are getting ready to face the challenges of losing teammates to injuries in last weeks game against Kettle Moraine.

“I look forward to how we will overcome losing kids on the team,” says Hessler.

Connor Kempson, an offensive line, is not apprehensive about the loss of numbers on the field.

“If I had to describe AHS football in one word it would be team,” says Kempson.

Tanke agrees, saying, “most importantly, the seniors taught me not to give up when things aren’t going my way.”

Whether the players look forward to college football or the everlasting memories they will hold from playing at the “U,” all can agree it’s been a great ride so far, and the best is yet to come.

“The Arrowhead football team is a family and one that will always stick together,” says Hessler.
