Psych premiered on the USA channel in 2006 and recently ended in March 2014. The show is an American detective comedy created by Steve Franks. Psych is a great show to watch as a family. It’s jam packed with comedy. You can easily access all the seasons on Netflix, and there are reruns on ION every day.  Psych is about immature but intelligent man who decides to help the local police department; along with his best friend.

Psych is a good choice if you want to watch a show as a family because the content is appropriate for all ages. It is a lighthearted comedy the whole family can laugh along with. It is also one of the very few shows that still have a theme song you can sing along to, called “I know, you know.” This song fits the show well because it has the dramatic irony of showing that the audience is in on the secret that Shawn Spencer is not a psychic. All eight seasons are on Netflix with the finally episode being a musical.

The main character, Shawn Spencer, is played by James Roday. His character is a very observant, sneaky, childish, and smart.  Growing up with a police officer as his dad, Shawn grew learning how to solve crime. Shawn was often skill tested by his dad in his childhood, and is now able to use those skills in his adult life. In the show, Shawn and Henry are totally opposites of each other and they often disagree.

Gus is played by Dule Hill, and he is Shawn’s best friend and partner.  The two characters are inseparable and have been since childhood. Gus has always been the smart and responsible one always getting dragged into Shawn’s crazy ideas.  The two characters start a private detective agency called Psych, and together they solve many high profile cases.

Timothy Omundson plays the aggressively serious lead detective Carlton Lassiter. Lassiter or Lassy as Shawn calls him, often disagrees with Shawn’s method of detective work because he doesn’t believe in psychics. The two characters often compete on who can solve the latest case.  Juliet O’Hara is played by Maggie Lawson. She is lassie’s partner on the force and Shawn’s crush. Juliet’s character is young female detective full of positive energy.

This show takes you on a different adventure in every episode. One episode could involve car thieves and werewolves and the next could involve dinosaurs. Shawn solves each case with his observation skills and his childish way of looking at the world.
