The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games are in full swing! The games started on February 6 and will run through February 22.
As of February 11, Team USA has 10 medals. Three gold medals in Freestyle Skiing, Alpine Skiing and Figure Skating; five silver medals, two in Freestyle Skiing, one in Alpine Skiing, one in Cross-Country Skiing and one in curling; two bronze medals in Alpine Skiing and Luge.
Athletes to watch these Winter Olympics are 21-year-old Figure Skater, Ilia Malinin, aka “The Quad God”. Malinin is a two-time world champion and is known for being the only person to land the quadruple axel, hence the nickname. Breezy Johnson, a Women’s Alpine Skiier, earned Team USA’s first gold medal at the games this year. With a broken arm, 17-year-old Ollie Martin represented Team USA in the Men’s Snowboarding Big Air Final, just missing an Olympic medal by one place.
Many fan-favorites returned this year. Figure skating partners and married couple Madison Chock and Evan Bates are in second place entering the free dance. They recently won gold in the Figure Skating Team Event. According to the 2026 Olympic poll, Figure Skating and Snowboarding are the most popular events.
Fammed Womens Alpine Skier, Lindsey Vonn, crashed during her race on Sunday, February 8, by clipping her gate. According to The New York Times, Vonn suffered a complex tibia fracture. This will most likely be the end of Vonn’s historic career. “While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the intense physical pain it caused, I have no regrets,” Vonn said on her Instagram account.
The games still have 11 more days to go. Good luck to all Team USA athletes, you are making your country proud!
