On January 10, Homestead High School hosted the annual DECA District Career Development Conference for District 5, and Arrowhead DECA had over 30 people compete.
There are three different types of competition that competitors can compete in. Principles of Business Administration Events is for individual first-year DECA members. Individual Series Events are individual member events that pose business challenges with role-plays set in specialized career areas. Team Decision Making Events challenge a team of two participants to analyze a case study in a specific career area and develop a solution.
“I think the entire competition was a definite success for our chapter and competitors,” Logan Welter, senior and the DECA Director of Competitive Events, said. “Arrowhead DECA performed really well with 7 of our members placing in the top 3 and 21 getting medals.”
As Welter said, Arrowhead had seven people place in the top 3 of their event, automatically qualifying them for the DECA State Career Development Conference, February 23 through 25 at Lake Geneva. Aubrey McGuire, 1 place in Marketing Communications; Mason Baumann, 2 place in Restaurant and Food Service Management; Varun Balla, 2 place in Quick Serve Restaurant Management; Will Viehe, 2 place in Business Finance; Dia Arora, 3 place in Entrepreneurship; Brett Cunningham, 3 place in Food Marketing; Ella Sardina, 3 place in Hotel and Lodging Management.
“We are so proud of how our members networked and made many valuable connections that they can carry with them throughout the rest of their lives,” Aubrey McGuire, junior and the DECA Co-President, said. “And we can’t wait for the State competition in Lake Geneva!”
