October’s Student and Teacher of the Month

A new month means a new selection of the most outstanding students and teachers. Every month, two teachers and two students are elected by Arrowhead’s student senate to be recognized as Teacher or Student of the Month.

November’s teacher of the month are Leah Cull and Shanna Hechomovich. The two students elected were sophmore Sam Berglin and senior Ashley Ng. Each person received four free coffees from the Wally Grounds Cafe or four free cookies from the Arrowhead Cafe.

Cull  teaches foods, advanced foods, alternative education, credit recovery, geography, and also manages the school garden. Alternative education is for students who do not have enough credits to graduate. Credit recovery is for students who want to gain a higher grade in a class they failed.

Junior Nina Gagan, one of Cull’scredit recovery students, says, “She cares a lot about her students and wants us all to succeed.”

South campus teacher of the month, Shanna Heckomovich, is a tenth grade US history teacher at south campus.

Junior Danny Hoeft, a student of hers from last year, thinks she deserved to be teacher of the month.

Hoeft says, “She gives good lectures and jokes around which is fun. We do fun simulations in class and she’s strict on due dates which makes me get my stuff in on time.”

Hoeft adds, “She [Heckomovich] offers good study sessions during lunch, which is really helpful for when we have tests coming up.”

“I feel very honored to be the selected student of the month, especially with Arrowhead being such a large school with so many students. It is also reassuring to know that my work as a student does not go unnoticed,” said sophomore, Berglin.

Ng said, “I was honored to be selected as student of the month. I didn’t even know Arrowhead did this, so I was really surprised when I received the letter. I think it’s good that the school does this, though, because it’s a nice way to reward students for demonstrating hard work and leadership, and it encourages students to contribute to the school’s awesome atmosphere!”

The student of the month is also chosen by the student senate. Students that receive the award based on their leadership and academics.

“According to my letter, I was nominated for my “diligence, hard work, compassion for others, and work with Warhawk Interact” (a volunteer/service organization that I am a co-president of),” said Ng.

“I believe I was selected mainly due to my participation in key club, student senate, and SASS Tutoring, as well as because of my performance in my classes,” said Berglin.

Ng received four free cookies and Berglin received fourfree cookies from the Arrowhead Cafe.
