Arrowhead Launches New Lunches

Five  years ago, Arrowhead made changes to the school cafeteria lunch menu in order to comply with national laws that require healthy school lunches.

The government requires a typical  high school lunch to be under 850 calories with fat free  or low fat milk, fruits, and veggies.

Arrowhead like many other schools across America, have made changes to comply with these new laws.

Arrowhead now serves whole wheat buns, pasta and even pizza crust. Instead of white rice ,brown rice is being served, and instead of regular milk, low fat or fat free milk is being served.

A lunch lady here at Arrowhead said,“ I love the changes because it addresses the obesity problem, and is getting people aware. We serve good healthy food for a low cost.”

But some Arrowhead parents and students are not happy with these changes.

Kory Clark, a sophomore at AHS said, “I would rather pack a lunch at home. The standard hot lunch here is not filling, and doesn’t have much flavor.”

On September 17th, 2012, Mukwonago High School students refused to buy lunch, and were joined by a nearby middle school.  The protest caused  the schools to lose half of their daily lunch money.
