How will AHS football bounce back?

The Arrowhead Warhawks football team suffered their first loss in over a year last week against the Homestead Highlanders.

In the battle between the defending 2012 division one state champs, Arrowhead, and the division two state champs, Homestead, the Warhawks fell short to the Highlanders 13-7.

After the loss, senior wide receiver Ricky Finco said, “The team will bounce back from the loss. “

Ricky Finco said, “Personally I think it’s a good learning experience for the team. It’s a big wake up call for us and could be the best thing that happened to us.”

Finco says, “The loss of last year’s seniors will be missed, as they brought a lot of enthusiasm and great leadership.”

Specifically, Arrowhead lost Dom Todarello, Kenny Finco, and Brandon Kim, to graduation in 2013. All are playing sports this year in college.

Finco said, “There are guys that need to step-up…and we just need to be focused on this year’s team.”

With the Warhawks losing their second game of the year to the Highlanders, Finco said, “The team goals have changed in any way this year.”

Finco said, “Our goals for the season are to have fun, set our egos aside on the field, and just take it one game at a time.”

A lot of coaching changes took place during this offseason for the Warhawks on defense. Dave Pheiffer, who was the Warhawks defensive coordinator last year is now the head coach at Kettle Moraine High School and Peter Kishline, who was the defensive line coach, is now coaching at UW-Whitewater.

Sam Seonbuchner, a senior linebacker said, “It’s a big adjustment, but I like the new coaches and am excited to learn from them.”

Seonbuchner said, “Now we know what it feels like to lose, so we will move forward from here. Our ultimate goal is to still win state and have fun doing it.”

The next game for the Warhawks is on Friday, September 13, where they will host the Catholic Memorial Crusaders.
