“Pretty Little Liars”: The Unending Mystery

When “Pretty Little Liars” first premiered on ABC Family on June 8, 2010, it received more than 3.64 million views.  But three seasons and years later, the central mystery still has not been unraveled and viewership has dropped to 2.97 million viewers during season four.

This mystery-thriller based television show is aimed to 18-21 year old women and revolves around four high school girls, played by Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Lucy Hale, and Troian Bellisario.  The girls try to uncover the secrets of who murdered their best friend, who is currently harassing and stalking the girls under the name of “A.”

While this showing is original and addicting, the plot drags on.  Each season finale reveals who is behind “A,” yet the next season reveals they were either just working for “A” or stalking the girls for a different purpose.

This may be the reason viewership is slowly decreasing.  To keep viewers interested the show avoids repeating the same ways, “A” targets the girls. And this is why show events are becoming unrealistic.  For example, one of the girl’s moms is framed for a murder and sent to jail—due to “A.”

Lastly, the town in the show suffers too many deaths.  “A” is killing off the people who used to work with them, yet in real life the killer would not be able to keep up their killing spree without getting caught or at least raising suspicion.

Plugged In.com, says, “If this show has anything going for it, it’s the fact that it doesn’t take itself too seriously.”

While this show is a popular and attempting to decode “A’s” cryptic messages keeps views interested, the mystery seems to be unending and viewers doubt that the person behind “A” will ever be exposed.
