The recent film “Project Hail Mary” is one of the most surprisingly good movies of this year. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, starring Ryan Gosling, this movie was a surprising box-office hit and has received raving reviews worldwide. The film’s plot is that the earth is doomed due to aliens that are absorbing the energy of the sun, where a school teacher, Rhyland Grace, is sent up to help save the world.
The film is doing so well due to the fact that it excellently adapts the source material. The score was impactful and made every scene feel like something the audience should be enthralled with. The entire film is made mostly of practical effects, which is almost unheard of in the sci-fi genre. The film does not use any green or blue screens, and the entire space station was made and controlled by a system to make every rotation or movement seem realistic to the actors and the camera.
It is hard to find any direct negatives of this movie, as nearly everything about it is immensely satisfying for the audience. The only negatives I think I can find about this film are that it does not have much of a larger purpose, and it felt as though it would end around four separate times. Overall, this was one of my favorite movies I have seen in theaters recently, 9.5/10.
