On February 12,13, and 14, Arrowhead’s Drama Club put on a play called This Murder Was Staged, directed by teachers Mrs. Markano and Mrs. Elmergreen, along with student director and senior Taylor Fechter. There were four total performances; however, unlike most plays, there were two different endings. This unique blend of comedy and meta play within a play made for a special production where the audience could not stop laughing. It follows the investigation of a murder that takes place on stage during a performance. The actors play actors who are playing characters when all of a sudden they discover the dead body of their director, Sinclair Hemmings, played by Twig Johnson. When they break character after the shocking realization, Detective Kendra Drake, played by Avery Ferguson, hops up on stage to investigate.
Arrowhead Drama Club has not had a comedy as its winter play in some time. “There is no ‘big, deep, earth-shattering theme’ in this show as there was with Bright Star or To See the Stars last year,” Markano said. It is safe to say this change of mood was well received by the audience.
“It was super fun and mysterious,” Owen Manne, junior, said, “a play that puts Hamilton to shame.”
“I think Ava Laurin, actress for Constance Flugelburt, had the best part because she made me laugh every time she came on the stage,” Brooke Haworth, junior, said. “I would say I enjoyed it.”
Passionate acting combined with dark humor from a “Charlie Brown’s The Crucible” skit kept the audience guessing until the very end. Here’s to another successful show by the talented Arrowhead students and staff!
