Boys Volleyball Path to the Golden Ball

The Arrowhead Boys Volleyball team has been on a roll and are looking to keep this trend going as they continue through the post season. They have their state quarterfinal match this Saturday, November 8th versus Westosha Central. The match will be held at Burlington High School, where this year’s state tournament is being held.

This state tournament has been one event that has been on these boys for a long time. Head Coach Dennis Mechenich says, “They’ve been talking about it for some time.  Talk is one thing, but their actions have proved why we are going to state.”

It was not an easy path to the state tournament for this Warhawks Boys team. They have to overcome adversity and setbacks.

Mechenich says, “We played every match this year with players injured and/or quarantined. We overcame this by having a deep squad with the ability of players to fill in multiple positions.”

Their first match of the season was played without two starters. One to injury and the other to quarantine. The team was not able to play at full strength until the sectional semifinal game just a week ago.

Mechenich says, “The team is playing with a lot of confidence. We are back to full strength. Everyone is healthy and everyone understands their role.”

Senior setter, Cameron Gohde, says, “Making state this year is definitely more special than in the past years of boys volleyball making state.”

Gohde says the team is confident heading into state and that it’d be great to be the first boys volleyball team to ever win a state title for Arrowhead.

The Warhawks have a tough road to the golden ball. Pool play starts Saturday at 8am against Westosha Central. If the Warhawks win they would play again later in the day at 2pm vs Marquette. Lastly, for the championship game, it would be 8pm the same day with the opponent unknown. The games will be taking place at Cedarburg high school and the event will be livestreamed.
