The Howard G. Mullett Ice Center is Arrowhead High School’s ice rink for skating and ice hockey. Over the summer, programs are offered at the center, from public skate to exclusive camps.

The following summer programs can be registered for in different ways, depending on which program it is. Generally, registration forms can be obtained online at www.mulletticecenter.org, the official website for the Mullett Center or picked up in person at the Mullett Center.

According to www.mulletticecenter.com, anyone can free skate the the Mullett during “public skate” for a small entry fee, which varies by age. There are open skate opportunities throughout summer. Hours vary. Exact dates can be found online at the Mullett Center’s official website.

There is also a hockey camp that takes place at The Mullett Ice Center according to the brochure titled “Hockey Factor Summer Skills Camp.” All hockey players in the area may register for the summer camp. It takes place over several days from June 19 to August 23 and, “focuses on skating form and technique, shooting, and passing— independently and as a group,” states the brochure.

There are also opportunities for beginners to join a skating camp at the Mullett Center. Children, ages 4 to 12, may register for the “Skating & Activities Day Camp,” as stated in a flyer for it. The flyer says this camp includes “ice skating, hockey, playground games, field games, gym games… and much more!!!” It takes place during the week of August 27th, and offers full-week or single-day registration.

Another opportunity for beginners is the “Eisstock” day sessions. According to a flyer for the event, “Eisstock originated in Bavaria and was played on pond ice.” It is a sport similar to curling. Anyone can join and learn how to play, but in the pictures on the flyer the camp appears to be dominated by older adults. Sessions are $8.00 and typically held once a week.

A brochure titled “Howard G. Mullett Ice Center” states, “The Mullett Center may be used for school outings, community skating parties and Scouting events.” Groups that meet this criteria may rent out the center for skating events.

Another type of event that can be held at the Mullett Center is a birthday party. An application form outlines the two types of “packages” available. Both packages include admission and skate rental, a table in the “Team Room,” and different variations of food selections.

A worker at the Mullett Center, Cole Treml, says, “The Mullett Center staff is like one big family. Everyone has fun working together while maintaining great work ethic and attitude.”
