The Varsity Girls Basketball Team Journeys to State

According to MaxPreps, America’s source for high school sports, the Arrowhead girls varsity basketball team is currently ranked #1 in the state of Wisconsin. The Arrowhead varsity girls basketball is coached by Rick Witte and assisted by Cheryl Bonlender.

The Arrowhead varsity basketball team has a home playoff game versus Sheboygan, WI on Friday, February 23 at 7pm. According to MaxPreps, in the nation they are ranked #236 and overall they have a 14-1 win loss rate.

With Arrowhead entering the playoffs with a #1 rank they have to win 3 games in order to go to state. If they make it to state, it will be held March 10th at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Junior, and varsity basketball player, Gabi Hower says, “We have a good mentality this year and I believe we can make it to state. We have sayings that motivate us to want it which are: Right here, Right now; Be present in the moment; and I promise to be better than I was yesterday. These mean a lot to us because we are always trying to improve and be better than we were yesterday. We should work together more as a team and that will lead us to success.”

If Arrowhead beats Sheboygan South this Friday they would play #8 De Pere or #9 Green Bay Preble on Saturday February 24th at 7pm.

If Arrowhead wins the next two games, then the third following game is held Thursday March 1st and would be against #12 Fond du Lac, #5 Germantown, #13 Menomonee Falls, or #4 Waukesha South, depending on who wins.

Following the playoffs, the sectional championship is held on Saturday March 3rd, at Sheboygan North.

Hower says, “We are trying to improve on not only ourselves towards the end of the season but being a stronger team because that’s how it is going to lead us to success in the end.”

Junior, and varsity basketball player Lauren With says, “We try to keep the mentality of not taking a shot for yourself, but more so taking one for the team since everyone played a role in scoring and assisting during the time on the court.”

Junior, and varsity basketball player Abby Bergman says, “I think our team has come a long way and worked so hard this season. We have a really good chance to make it to state if we work really hard and play with and for each other. We have a lot of talent we just have to stay focused and do the little things. It would be really cool to see all our hard work and dedication pay off in the playoffs.”

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published an article on how Arrowhead moved up the #1 spot, “The Warhawks (14-1) moved to No. 1 in the state’s Division 1 rankings after both Milwaukee King and Appleton North took losses last week. The Warhawks came through the week unscathed, downing Kettle Moraine (5-8) on Jan. 19, 49-24.”

With says, “We really want to make it to state and I believe that can happen with our hard work and commitment.”
