Arrowhead High School will be hosting an event in order to raise money for a scholarship fund called the Arrowhead Scholarship Fund. The event will be held at Rustic Manor 1848 off of State Road 83 on March 11, 2016 from 6 PM to 11 PM.

According to CollegeBoard.com, the average college tuition has tripled from about $10,000 to about $30,000 since 1971. In 1994, the total amount of student aid (from federal, state, institutional, and private funding) was $58,166. In 2015, the total was $183,786.

Mike Ward, one of Arrowhead’s North Campus counselors, says, “Last year 62 seniors received some money from this one scholarship.”

Rustic Manor 1848 is a finished barn, that is used as an event hall. According to the Rustic Manor 1848 website, the barn itself is 6,000 square feet, and includes a 24-foot handcrafted bar.

The event will begin at 6:00 PM with a cocktail bar, where guests may have drinks (must pay in cash). A silent auction will follow, and according to the flyer live music will be performed by Mark & Maricelle.

At 6:30 PM, the buffet will open for guests to have dinner. Games and raffles will occur throughout the evening. At 8:30 PM, the silent auction will close, and at 8:45 PM, the live auction will begin. At 9:30 a dessert and coffee bar will be open for guests. The event concludes at 11:00 PM.

Ward says that there are far more academic scholarships offered to students than there are athletic scholarships. The Arrowhead Scholarship Fund is purely academic based.

Ward says, “Sometimes academic is a different word, there are areas of interest.” Ward says, describing how scholarships can be tailored to the extracurricular interests of the applicant, and not to only academic achievements.

“We have a scholarship for an individual who wants to go into technology at tech school, so it just varies.”

Ward continues to say, “Probably half of our kids would need some type of financial assistance to make the college realm easier, instead of borrowing from their parents or borrowing from the bank.”

Ward says most scholarship applications are online but some can be found in paper form. The application for the scholarship created by the Arrowhead Scholarship Fund  includes questions such as, “What are your educational goals?” and “What does this scholarship mean to you?” Application deadlines vary depending on the scholarship a student is applying for. Deadlines can range anywhere from November until May.
