The Benefits of Summer School

Summer school offers students an opportunity to get ahead academically or potentially catch up,  according to EnlightenMe.com, a website containing informative articles. Arrowhead High School offers a variety of summer school classes which provide a semester long course in six weeks.

According to Arrowhead High School, all summer school classes offered are credit courses. They take place over the course of six weeks and each class meets for 2 ½ hours Monday through Thursday. Summer school of 2015 begins June 15 and concludes July 23. You can also choose to replace one semester grade.

Denise Witmer, a Teen Expert for About Parenting, says, “It tends to be more relaxed with smaller classes – it’s the optimal learning environment in which all teens could benefit.”

In general, summer school classes are quicker, smaller, and overall more relaxed, according to About Parenting. Students receive individualized instruction and excel in classes that they might have not taken during the average school year, claims EnlightenMe.com.

The courses offered vary from Art Survey to Psychology. Certain courses have prerequisites and are available to specific grade levels. Some classes are even done exclusively online, so sit back and enjoy the sun while boosting that GPA. All class information, including registration directions, can be found on the official Arrowhead website under counseling/careers and course information and selection. Students can register as of now and registration is open until until June 8 if space is still available.

Cate Wiza claims she would take the opportunity to attend summer school if she had the time. Wiza says, “I think colleges would notice students putting in the effort to further their education.”
