High fever, uneven heartbeats, hallucinations, seizure, and stopped breathing are roughly one tenth the side effects of  Zoloft, a commonly used medication for Social Anxiety Disorder (shyness).CNN Health says 11% of Americans endure these symptoms to take medications.

Americans are the biggest consumers of psychiatric medication, yet when it comes to shortening the crisis of mental health, we are at a standstill.  One might ask, “What is the answer to this?”

Plain and simple the answer is this: we are being consumed by misleading advertising and the mass production of brain chemicals.

Psychiatric medication creates imbalances in the brain in order to combat other imbalances which cause things like depression. However, these sorts of mental illnesses are caused by imbalances in the brain, and adding a greater imbalance may make your depression fade for a while, but in the long run, it will cause an even greater problem.

Psychiatric drug companies should win an award for their commercials because they make hell look like heaven.  They lure people into buying their products by taking a normal feeling, and turning it into a serious illness. For instance, shyness becomes social anxiety disorder, loss of a loved one becomes major depressive disorder, and homesickness turns into separation anxiety.

The Occult Science Network says that 98 to 99% of people who see a psychiatrist are prescribed psychiatric drugs.

In 2009 Johnson and Johnson pharmaceuticals paid $2.3 billion to settle civil and criminal allegations over illegally marketing a product.

“No other country but the U.S. allows the advertising of prescription drugs due to its misleading potential,” says The Occult Network.

Psychological illness is much more complex than physical illness because as a broken bone can be seen with an x-ray, your mind can’t. Therefore, there is no clear picture of what’s going on.

Psychiatric doctors have to realize that every problem can’t be cured with a pill.

The Occult Network says the United States consumes 60% of the psychiatric drugs manufactured in the world, and spends $32 billion on psychiatric drugs per year. Currently these drugs are causing 700,000 adverse reactions, and 42,000 deaths annually.

Despite these numbers, the Psychiatric drug industry rakes in over $330 billion per year.

The greatest mental illness that needs to be treated today is the production of psychiatric drugs.

Senior Caitlin Engelbert says psychiatric medication can be a bad thing, especially if it is abused or over used.

“I think psychiatric medications are ok for some people, in some cases. But it really depends on who it is, and why they need it.” said Engelbert.
