Having gotten close to a foot of snow over Thanksgiving break, Lake Country has turned into a winter wonderland. All of this fresh powder is perfect for students who love to ski and snowboard. Arrowhead students have different preferences for where they like to go, such as Ausblik, Little Switzerland or Cascade.
“I love Little Switzerland! I have been going there since I was three, and that’s where I learned to ski with my dad,” Emily Corteen, senior, said. “They just have such a warm, friendly environment, and I feel that they have such a great sense of community, making it such a great place to make memories with friends and family.”
Little Switzerland, or ‘Little Switz,’ is the most popular spot among Arrowhead students. “I like Little Switz because they have a variety of hills and it has a nice deck with fires to sit by at the lodge,” Ashley Megal, senior, said.
Skiing and snowboarding do not have to be intense. Some people enjoy longer, beautiful slopes compared to crowded, fast ones. The lodging and food are also important to consider. A non-Arrowhead student recommends some of her favorite spots to the AHS community. “I love Nordic Mountain’s chicken caesar salad wrap, but I also think their hills are the best because they have a lot of longer, slower ones, so if you kind of want a more scenic route, you can get that there,” Olivia Partenfelder, my cousin, said. “Devil’s Head also has really good Shirley Temples.”
Hopefully, Arrowhead students hit the slopes this weekend, and there is no better way to celebrate the holidays than time with family and friends on the hill.
