Warhawk Interact is hosting a book drive April 8th through April 19th. Books of any genre can be donated, according to an announcement presentation played in study hall rooms. The books will be used for a free book fair for the community held on May 11th.
According to the Warhawk Interact website, the book fair will be held in the Arrowhead High School South Campus Cafeteria from 9am to 12pm.
“[The] primary goal of hosting the event is giving families in Waukesha County access to more books. Last year, we had a child come up to us very excited about a book he found. Then he asked us how much the book was and we were able to reiterate that it was all free! It’s fun to be able to offer these types of things to our community,” says Warhawk Interact Advisor and school psychologist Kevin Lewandowski.
According to the Arrowhead website, “Warhawk Interact assists the local Rotary club and other organizations with carrying out their missions to help others. Members of Warhawk Interact perform acts of service in their communities such as collecting school supplies, organizing food drives, or cleaning up parks.”
The minimum requirements to be a member of Warhawk Interact are to complete the membership application, attend all projects and meetings, contribute to club efforts, and participate in activities for at least 4 hours each semester, according to the Arrowhead website.
“[Warhawk Interact’s] first time doing the book drive and free community book fair was in spring 2023. We had collected over 5,000 books and gave almost 3,000 away to community members. The rest of the books were donated to other organizations in the area to help promote literacy,” says Lewandowski.
Donations for the book drive can be put in the designated bins located in each classroom.
“We are expecting to have thousands of books ranging from board books to adult novels. Warhawk Interact also pays for Cafe Arrowhead cookies and other snacks for the people who attend,” says Lewandowski.
