Thick, Full Eyebrows On Fleek

Senior Katerina Haros shows off her dark, full eyebrows

A huge trend breaking through at Arrowhead, and with women in general, is thick, dark, eyebrows.

According to thefashiontag.com’s article, “How About This Massive Trend: Thick Big Bold Eyebrows,” back in the 90s, celebrities Kate Moss and Gwen Stefani showed that plucking almost all of our eyebrows was the best and trendiest look. Movie stars Anna May Wong, and Clara Bow, as well, had pencil-thin eyebrows with a dramatic downward curving tail. Little did we know that excessive plucking actually makes us look much older. Thick eyebrows, on the other hand, according to thefashiontag.com, makes us look younger, fresh, and bold because it balances the face.

Instyle.com states that back in the 1960s, Audrey Hepburn had a full set of brows that showed a new type of shape to the world of cosmetics and makeup. The arch of the brow took on a more natural appearance until the 1970s when disco, shimmery shadow, and interesting brow shapes developed, and soon, people were plucking.

Decades later, thick and defined arches inspired many adults and teens to step away from the tweezers and embrace a fuller brow shape.

InStyle states that supermodel Cara Delevingne and TV/model Kim Kardashian keep up with the natural hair growth cycle of keeping their brows thick and long. The bigger the better is the view most people today want to achieve with their brows.

“I absolutely love the look of thick and bold eyebrows. I used to have very light and thin eyebrows, until I noticed Cara Delevingne’s brows and how much people liked the look. It pushed me to stop plucking my brows, letting them grow big and thick naturally and also touch them up with a little eyebrow dye too. I’m obsessed with this look and think thick brows look good on absolutely anyone,” says senior, Alli Kroeninger.

According to Refinery29, brow-tinting is a color service, normally done at a salon, that doesn’t take away any hair, but uses semi-permanent vegetable dye to enhance color, shape, and thickness of your eyebrows. Tinting can range from over $20 and last from four to six weeks, according to truthinaging.com.

If brow tinting at a salon is too expensive for your budget, you can try self dyeing them with facial box color dye. Some examples are Walmart’s, Just for Men Mustache Beard and Sideburns Brush, for $7.49.

If you don’t have full eyebrows or if you are waiting for yours to grow out, you can use the option of filling them in using a powdered eyebrow shadow, tinted brow gel and eye pencils.

You can find an inexpensive tinted brow gel for $5.99 available at Target, and you can also purchase a more professions and expensive eyebrow pencil ranging for over $20.

Makeup artist, Kristie Streicher, working with Refinery29, gives helpful tips to achieve the bold eyebrows. She states, “Using a tinted brow gel is key, but can be messy. I find it helpful to wipe the brush with a tissue first to remove excess product…This way, you can easily brush it through the brow using upward strokes without getting too much on the skin around the brow.”

Sabah Feroz, the head of  the Blink Brow Bar, offers a smart solution to also achieve the fleek brow. Feroz says, “Always warm up your brow pencil by applying it on your hand before you apply to the brow.” She states that “this helps the pencil glide across the brow hairs smoothly, building up gradual and natural color as you go.”

Senior, Lauren Goetz says, “I used to have very thin, but dark eyebrows and when I look back in pictures, it just does not look right. It doesn’t fit my face or flatter me. Now, I noticed this trend starting around Arrowhead and read about it in magazines, and I started to stop plucking. I let them grow out while still keeping them groomed, and now I have bolder and thicker eyebrows that really flatter my face and fit me much better. I’m absolutely in love with them.”
