Hailey Yokes’ College Application Process

Hailey Yokes’ College Application Process

In the weeks before the 2014-2015 school year began, Arrowhead senior Hailey Yokes started her college application process.  While searching for colleges, she looked for any college that would let her get a teaching degree.

“I found [University of Wisconsin] Green Bay, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Oshkosh,” says Yokes.

She said  beyond offering a teaching degree, any college had an equal chance.

Through the college application process, Yokes had no problems in finishing the applications, but she suffered from procrastination.

“Looking back, I wish I had written my [college application] essays a lot sooner.  The later you wait the harder it gets to just do it,” says Yokes.

Yokes also said she should have sent her ACT scores to schools she was interested in sooner.  She said she sent out her ACT scores to colleges other than the ones she would apply to.

Yokes also said applying early would have relieved unnecessary stress.

“There are a lot of things that I would do differently now that I look back at these last few months. But there is no way I would ask to go through that again,” says Yokes.

Yokes was recently accepted to UW Eau Claire and UW Oshkosh.  She is waiting for responses from the other colleges she applied to.  Yokes has yet to decide on which school she is going to, but she says Eau Claire is near the top.

“I’m looking forward to going to college, but I would have to say this: juniors, get an idea for what you want to do, send in you ACT scores as soon as possible, and start working on your college essays early.  It will make the whole [process] easier,” says Yokes.
