My Love Affair with Fault in Our Stars

Everyone I know has been begging me to read Fault in Our Stars by John Greenfor months now. I, myself, am not much of a reader so ignored the constant pleads of my best friend to read this book. Then last Sunday, I finished my homework early and thought I would give the book a try. So I went to the store to pick up the book and started to reading and I couldn’t put it down. It is such a great story and I am addicted!

The story is about a cancer patient named Hazel who is learning to live with cancer and the disadvantages of being, what Hazel calls a “side effect,” of death. Hazel is forced by her mother to join a cancer support group where she meets a cute guy named Augustus, who is in recovery from cancer. The two instantly hit it off and spend time bonding over their favorite books. Augustus opens Hazel’s eyes to the world beyond cancer and ends up changing her life.

The story is way better than the cheesy and emotional book that I am describing it to be.But this is not “just another cancer story.” It has so much more depth than that. The teens in the book are so genuine; I love them all! I love the way the book is written; each phrase in the book has a distinct meaning and flows almost like poetry. The book truly touched me. The story has a sort of Perks of Being a Wallflower feel that keeps me reading page after page.

Everyone should get a taste of this book. It made me laugh and cry and express every emotion in between. The story is so sweet. The writer, John Green, throws in these quotes like “Oh, I wouldn’t mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you” that I think he put in purposely to cause me to tear up. I can now see, after finally reading this book, why there is such a wild craze over the book. If you do plan to read the book, I am warning you now you need to scratch your plans for next weekend because the book will take over you and will engross all your thoughts and emotions. It is such an adorable story that everyone should have the privilege to read.

The movie adaptation of this book comes out on June 6th. The movie features Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Woodley’s love interest Augustus. The two have already acted together, but as brother and sister in Divergent. The movie is already getting rave reviews and should be a smash in theaters.
