Final Semester for Seniors

With the start of second semester this week it marks the final stretch for seniors.   7/8 through the way of their high school career’s, many students are taking the minimum amount of classes as many have already met most of the requirements needed to graduate.  At this time many students are focused on college, getting scholarships, and other post high school plans instead of their last semester.

For many senior year represents the starting point for the rest of student’s lives.   What students look to accomplish senior year often lies outside of academics and often in athletics, extracurriculars, and community events.  Many students try to make the most the last semester of high school by gaining attention by colleges from athletics, earning scholarships in their community, enjoying the end of activities they have participated in and spending time with friends.

Marry Warren, a senior, who is committed to Northwestern for swimming said, “I used my senior year to meet with college coaches and go on official college visits.  I performed well in the season and I continue to keep good grades.”

India Martin, a senior, has applied for a few scholarships through the National Society of High School Scholars.  “I’ll be attending Marquette in the fall and it’ll be nice to use the academic scholarship money I earn to reduce my costs in college.”

One of the scholarships at Arrowhead, which is sponsored by the Arrowhead Athletic Booster Club, is the David P. Balmer Athletic Scholarship.  Up to five of the scholarships will be given in the amount of $1000 to graduating seniors.  Recipients of the scholarship have to have received a varsity letter in athletics, exhibited leadership and sportsmanship, and earned the respect of coaches, teachers, and members of the community.  Many seniors meet the application requirements and will apply to receive the scholarship.

With their high school carrier coming to a close seniors continue to take advantage of opportunities that will benefit then for the rest of their lives.
