Rho Kappa Honors Society is a national club that offers a chapter for Arrowhead students. This club is for students who have a passion for social studies and History. Beth  DesRosiers, a social studies teacher at Arrowhead High School, says,  “the idea of the group is to promote the study of history.”

To be a member of the club, students have to apply online and like National Honors Society have to keep a certain cumulative GPA (3.0) to be allowed in the club.  To apply, students must have already completed or currently completing six credits of social studies and be enrolled in at least one social studies class for every semester for all four years of high school. Members also must have at least a 3.5 GPA average in social studies classes.  Also, students need to have been involved for at least a year in another social studies club including  Model UN, Psych club, JSA or Mock Trial.

DesRosiers says, “You apply by completing the online application for the national organization, printing it out, and submitting it to any AHS Social studies teacher along with a copy of your most recent transcript.”

Ron Reiche, a social studies teacher at AHS, says, “We will promote joining Rho Kappa in March and take applications in April. You can print the form and turn it into a social studies teacher. The fee is only paid if you are chosen to be a member.”

The society does not have regular meetings, but instead, members have to do an “Important Day of History” project depicting a whole day of and important event in history.

DesRosiers says, “Once you are accepted as a member, it is your responsibility to complete at least one This Day in History promotion.  This can be done on your own or with another Rho Kappa Member.”
