Galen Harte Scrapes Up The Ice

Galen Harte, is 17 years old and a junior in high school, and she says she has been exposed to ice hockey her entire life.

Her brother and father highly support it and she used to go with her family to her brothers’ tournaments, but she never thought she herself would play the sport.

Her brother played ice hockey for five years, and he’s on the Junior Admirals team that practices at the Mullet.

Galen swims on the Arrowhead team during the fall, but she was looking for something to do during the winter.

Her friend plays on the field hockey team and introduced her to the sport which gave her an idea: Why not join the ice hockey team?

“I wanted to do a winter sport this year and I love watching hockey and I knew how to skate so I decided to go for it,” Harte says.

She has been on the hockey team for a total of almost one season, which is four months in all, and she has been playing for three and a half months.

The coach of her team is Andy Smith and there are 16 other girls on the team besides Harte.

Harte said, “I’ve learned how to be a team player, this is the first team sport that I’ve played while at Arrowhead.”

Harte said that her favorite part about being on the team is that she doesn’t have a favorite part. She said that she loves all aspects of being on the team and having teammates that you need to rely on.

Harte says that you should first learn how to skate on the ice because that’s the most important aspect of the game, and then learn the skills of actually playing hockey.

“The team is awesome and it’s so much fun to play, I might just play again next year,” Harte said.
