Girl Up, a club sponsored by the United Nations, is one of the most popular clubs at Arrowhead. It fights for ending gender discrimination and raises awareness for the problems faced by girls and women worldwide. The club encourages all women to be leaders and innovative thinkers.
The President of Arrowhead’s chapter is Ava Trainor, the Co-Vice Presidents are Dia Arora and Brynn Rogers, the Secretary is Bella Hagen, the Social Media and Outreach is run by Ella Sardina, the Events Coordinator is Andie Diorio and the Fundraising and Drives Coordinators are Layla Spielman and Rhea Diorio. The club meetings take place in room NC196.
Girl Up covers 6 main issues: education, STEM, health, leadership, sports and gender violence. The club raises money for organizations such as UNICEF and tries to advocate for women in STEM professions, participation in more sports, as well as educate women on healthy living.
“I love Girl Up because we get to help many organizations and create a safe space for girls,” Brynn Rogers, Vice President, said.
For those considering Girl Up, please note that members are expected to be at every meeting and complete at least one or more volunteering events. Only two meetings can be missed without an excused absence. For those with an excused absence, it must be approved beforehand. It is preferred that members participate in as many meetings and events as possible.
